In December 2017 Sanctuary Retreats launched the exclusive new Sanctuary Kichakani Serengeti Camp in Tanzania. This extraordinary new escape, based in three set locations across the Serengeti, invites guests to intimately experience the movement of a million-plus wildebeest and zebra as they follow the fresh grasses across the Serengeti plains during the annual migration cycle.

Being a part of Kichakani — translating from Swahili as ‘in the bush’ — means staying in remarkable luxury tents which can be packed up and moved along in a style evocative of the pioneering explorers of the 19th century, yet with all the modern comforts.

An elegant contemporary take on the classic campaign look, Sanctuary Kichakani Serengeti Camp offers accommodation under canvas with 10 new five-star tents, all of which have been styled with distinction. Each tent has a wooden deck perfect for pausing for a just-brewed cup of Tanzania’s finest coffee, and ensuite bathrooms feature authentic bucket showers. A personal tent attendant is available around the clock to fill each bucket shower to the perfect temperature

Sanctuary Kichakani Serengeti Camp’s three set locations throughout the year are based on the natural migration path offering wildlife viewing from open plains, sweeping grasslands and rocky kopjes. The stars of this seasonal path are wildebeest, zebra, Thomson’s gazelles, and the predators that this migratory journey attracts. The Serengeti is known for having the Big Five; cheetahs are a highlight, along with wild dog, giraffe, waterbuck and impala.

Modern luxury brings the charm of centuries-ago safari living bang up to date.

Client Testimonials

"I've been traveling all over the world for twenty years, but my trip this month to Africa put together by your firm was the smoothest and best planned trip I've ever made. The various places we stayed were outstanding and the uniqueness of each location added to the charm and atmosphere of the trip. The service I received from the guides, drivers and hotel attendants made me feel like royalty. The most impressive part was how smooth everything worked. Thanks again for your hard work, dedication and professionalism. I look forward to another trip with you."
Mike Blair, Managing director-Investments Wachovia Securities Inc.
"We enjoyed this fourth trip to Africa more than any we have made. Singita was beyond anything we have seen before. The service and the setting were incomparable. At Singita we would sit on the balcony and we saw elephants, baboons, impala, the big monitor lizards and in the morning we left two leopards walked across the river. We are so appreciative for all you have done for us and for the wonderful job you always do."
James B. Holloway, Jr. M.D.
